IMPORTANT: To ensure that the fonts and images you used to compose your document print accurately, you must include font files and linked images with your document file, and compress them in one folder using WinZip for Windows or Stuffit for Mac.

In Windows, you can locate the files for your fonts in this folder: C:\Windows\Fonts. Simply copy the appropriate files to your transfer disk.

For QuarkXPress 5 or 6, use the File→Collect for Output feature to gather fonts and linked images with your document. This feature in earlier versions of Quark is able to copy linked images only. For Adobe InDesign, use the File→Package feature to gather fonts and linked images with your document.

For Adobe Illustrator, you must manually copy font files and linked graphic files to your transfer disk. Newer versions of Illustrator will list all the fonts you have used in your open document under Type→Find Font. You can save the list as a text file for easy reference with the Save List… button in the dialogue box. Alternatively, you may convert all your text to drawing objects with Type→Create Outlines. Only use this feature in a copy of your document file, as the text will be uneditable after conversion.

For Pagemaker, use File→Save As… to copy your document to the transfer disk. In the dialogue box, under the heading Copy, select All Linked Files. Windows users can locate fonts in the folder C:\Windows\Fonts. Mac users should use their font management program to export font files to the transfer disk.

For Publisher, use File→Pack and Go, which will embed fonts and images with your document. For most files the option Take to Another Computer is sufficient. If you have designed a document with spot colors (for a 2-color or 3-color print job, say, where printed separations are needed), use Take to a Commercial Printing Service.
